Traxxas' Power-UP Program

Hi, folks. Just want to let you all know that we're proudly participating in Traxxas' new "Power-UP Program". It's an extention of the long running Engine Replacement Plan, but expanded to include Traxxas' brushless power systems and their new 2.4Ghz radios. And the best part is that you can exchange them here in the store! Just bring in your old equipment and we'll swap it out the same day, if we have the requested item on hand. If we don't, we'll do all the paperwork and send it in for you, saving you the time and hassle.

So, if you were thinking about upgrading your Rustler, Stampede, or Slash to brushless power, or want to ensure no interferance with a 2.4GHz radio, you can get it all with Traxxas' Power-UP Program, available through Roger's Hobby Center and other hobby shops around the country.

...And, We're Back

Hi, guys.

I know, it's been a while since I've updated our front page... or any of the website for that matter. We've been focused on activities here in the store so much that we've neglected our poor website. But I'm here to change that.

It's been, admittedly, a slow month. But we're continuing to hang in there; we are committed to riding out this whole recession thing and get back to the business of hobbies, better than ever. At least, that's the plan. :)

The season's first Ryder Center Indoor Flying event went off without a hitch. It was a great four hours of flying for those that came out. There was a pretty good turnout, but a few notable people were missing. Hopefully, those that couldn't make it for the first one can come out for the next one on the schedule, November 22nd. And remember, if you need the dates for the events, you can find them here.

I managed to snag a few pictures while I was there, and you can view them here. It took a while for me to crop them and get them down to size; I took over 80 images. These are the best of the bunch. Hope you like them!

The beginning of the month means new coupons, and if you're looking for an indoor micro flyer, you're in luck! If you buy any one of select E-Flite and Parkzone products, you'll get an additional battery for FREE! But you have to present the coupon, so don't forget to print it out before you stop in. And if you're not into helis or airplanes, don't worry. There's a generic merchandise coupon up as well. You can fetch those coupons by clicking here.

We haven't been all that active on our YouTube channel, but don't let that fool you. Keep an eye on it in the coming months; we have big plans for it.

And, as always, don't forget to follow us on Facebook. We're always happy to have more fans!

Thanks for hanging in there with us. You guys really make it easy to enjoy my job, and it's a blessing to be surrounded by such wonderful people.

See ya in the store.

End of Month Updates

The end of September is upon us. That means school already started back up, the leaves will be changing color soon, and the indoor flying season starts. In that vein, the dates for the indoor flying events at the Ryder Center have been posted. You can find them here, or click on "Upcoming Events" in the Resources tab. We plan on being present for most of the events, just as we were last year. We look forward to the upcoming season.

And what better way to get prepared for the season than getting a new Triton Jr battery charger from ElectriFly? It's our Deal of the Week this week. But check back often; the deal changes every week!

Those that check this site often will know that on Saturday, September 26th, Roger and I packed up the slot car table, a train set, and a couple of radio control helicopters and headed over to Barnes & Noble for the afternoon in an event Barnes & Noble called "For Dads and Lads: Planes, Trains, & Automobiles". The event went quite well. We had the helis flying in the store, and the slot car track went over big time. You can see the pictures we took here, in the "Photos" section of our website.

We're on YouTube! We have a YouTube channel now. At the moment, we only have one video up, but there will be more in the future.

And finally, for those that have been using our coupons, thank you! But I just want to remind you all that the current batch of coupons expire at the end of this month. But don't worry, we'll have new ones then the old ones come down.

Thanks for reading this mass of words. I appreciate you stopping by, and I hope to see you in the store sometime soon.

Seize the day. Get a hobby.

Teaming up w/ Barnes & Noble

That's right! We're teaming up with Barnes & Noble on September 26th, 2009 for an event titled "For Dads & Lads: Planes, Trains, & Automobiles". Barnes & Noble asked us if we'd be interested in helping them with the event, and we couldn't pass up the oppertunity. And we aren't doing it alone.

In light of the event's theme, we thought it would be appropriate to invite the members of the Mid-Michigan Model Makers club to the event as well. They'll be working the Make-N-Take table: where anyone can build a plastic snap together model and take it home... for free! And you'll have the help and assistance of the model club members, so just about anyone can get a great looking model.

In addtion to the Make-N-Take, we'll have radio control helicopters flying around, a working slot car track (if we can get it out the door!) and possibly a train layout. Plus videos and displays, and much more!

If you have the time, stop by Barnes & Noble on Saturday, September 26th from 1:00pm through 3:00pm in the afternoon.

Hopefully we'll see you there!

Midland Airshow '09: Afterthoughts

On Sunday, September 13th, 2009, the Midland R/C Club held their annual airshow. The weather was beautiful, resulting in a great turnout of people and airplanes. I don't know how many people flew that day, but it was one of the best turnouts they've had in years.

Rog, Dar, and I arrived around 2:30pm. At that point, the event was already in full swing, having started at 10 o'clock in the morning. I walked over to the pavilion and chatted with a few of the fliers. It's a strange thing, really, to be outside of the store and still be in a semi-work environment. But it certainly helps that everyone there were people I genuinely enjoy talking to.

It was a fun event - I don't often get to see people fly the stuff they buy from us, and it's quite rewarding to see them enjoying the hobby we work hard to provide for.

But, I digress.

I did take some photos while there. You can see them over in the Midland Airshow 2009 photo gallery. I hope you enjoy the images.

Thanks to all the Midland Club members for a fun afternoon!

Remembering September 11

I remember, like most of you I'm sure, when I saw the towers come down. I remember seeing the second plane hit. I remember hearing the reactions of the people around me. I remember a few people crying. And, oddly enough, I remember taking a science test that morning.

I was in my junior year of high school in the fall of 2001. As some of you may remember the "Day of Infamy", I will remember this day of tragedy -- for the rest of my life.

I can't say I lost a loved one on that day. I can't say I lost a friend, a family member, or even an acquaintance. But I lost something that day more important than any of those.

I lost the innocence that came with being an American high school student that day.

So it is, eight years later, that I remember these things. I remember for the people that died, so that their deaths mean something. I remember for the people around me, so what we went through as our eyes were glued to the screen means something. And I remember so that the loss of innocence for an entire generation means something.

And I'd like you to remember too.

God bless America.

Remember.

Two New Coupons Up

Howdy, folks!

Just letting you know that we've taken down the old coupon, but we've put up two new ones in it's place!

Click on "Coupons" on the top navigation bar and voila! Two money-saving offers to help offset the cost of your favorite hobby.

The E-flite Blade mSR continues to sell well, and I'm continually impressed with the way it flies. I've had to replace only two parts since taking to the air the first time, and trust me... it's seen it's fair share of impacts. It flies great, and I suspect you'll see quite a few of them out at SVSU's Ryder Center when the indoor season starts.

Speaking of which, we haven't seen any information on the dates for the Ryder Center indoor events yet, but rest assured when we do, we'll post them here.

Nothing much else to report, but things change all the time, so be sure to either subscribe to our RSS feed here or check back frequently.

Thanks for stopping by, and we hope to see you soon.

The Blade mSR is here!

We received our first shipment of the new E-Flite Blade mSR. Currently, all we have are Ready-to-Fly models (Bind-N-Fly models are coming, but I'm not sure when). A full parts supply is on the way, so we can help you fix it in the event you crash.

I took our store demo out of the box today and charged up a couple of Common Sense 130mAh batteries on the included 4-port AC charger. This heli flies. For those new to the fixed pitch, single rotor design, I'd recommend flying with the dual rates off (click the right thumbstick in to toggle dual rates).

The Blade mSR is crazy fast, and nimble too. It's also durable; I hit a couple of walls with it, and no broken parts resulted. I really enjoyed the short time I spent with the heli, and am looking forward to performing demos here in the store.

We have, at the time of this writing, five (5) of the new Ready-To-Fly E-Flite Blade mSRs in stock. Come get yours today!
