It’s true that there’s no shortage of online retailers ready and willing to sell the same products that we carry here at Roger’s Hobby Center. Probably for slightly lower prices, too. It’s something we think about every day, but we don’t lose sleep over it. Why? Because we’re confident that shopping with us is better than the alternative for one very big reason: hobbies are hard.
Breaking into most hobbies isn’t easy. Sure, if your hobby is watching every episode of House of Cards or Game of Thrones, it’s not all that taxing to pick up. But most hobbies that we deal with have a learning curve that doesn’t easily allow for anyone to just do it. There are things to learn, terminology to understand, and safety procedures to master. Whether you want to start building plastic models, wire up a model train layout, or run an R/C car around the block, it’s tough to simply buy something and make it work without some information that you don’t currently possess.
We told the young man at the counter we were thinking about buying a couple of RC trucks but were only looking right now. He spent about 20 to 30 minutes showing and explaining the differences in a couple of trucks. We were very impressed by how friendly and knowledgeable he was. We will be buying our trucks and related supplies from Rogers!

And that’s where we come in. Unlike online retailers, we have a knowledgeable staff that can actually talk to you and explain your chosen hobby – face to face! We can help with the entire process, from starting a hobby all the way through until you’re a hobby master. We can recommend an R/C car, boat, airplane or helicopter for you to start with, and explain why we feel that would be the right choice. We can and will take the time to explain how (and more importantly, why) things work the way they do. We will be there for you every step of the way – not something any of the online retailers can promise.
We also have extensive guides to many of the complex mechanics or concepts that we deal with listed, for free, on our website. We want to make these guides available to anyone, at any time. If we're not here to help at a given time (like, for example, 2:30 in the morning when you woke up to work on your R/C car or charge your batteries), we wanted at least some information to be reachable. Our Guide to LiPo Batteries, for instance, is now the most visited page on our website, and we're happy that people can use that resource to further their knowledge. And we can say, with confidence, there is not a more comprehensive LiPo guide on the Internet. At least not one that we've found.
With a seemingly endless supply of manufacturers and products out there, how can anyone know that they’re making the right choice when they buy something? This is especially true in the hobby industry, where foreign manufacturers don’t always believe in telling the truth about their products, or even make counterfeit goods. It can be hard to weed out the bad guys online.
You won’t have to worry about any of that at Roger’s Hobby Center. We focus on brands and goods that we know are as good as they claim to be. That’s one advantage of our thirty-plus years of experience. Not only are the products we carry a result of our considerable experience, but the companies that make them are also important to us. We want to provide the absolute best service we can. Carrying products from companies like Traxxas and Horizon Hobby allow us to execute on that promise, because they care about service as well. We know that even the best quality control will sometimes allow a defective product to fall through the cracks, but we also know that whenever that happens, we can and will get our customers taken care of.
We try to stay competitive on price. In the age of the Internet, it’s pretty much impossible not to. But we also pride ourselves on going the extra mile on service, and that does come with a cost. We also try to keep our money local, reinvesting in the local economy whenever possible. Whether it’s business cards, office supplies, or anything else we need to keep our business running, we source as much as we can from the businesses around us. Our commitment to quality service and local reinvestment comes at a price, which is to say that we can’t always match the lowest price you can find online. That doesn’t mean don’t ask – we’ll never say never to that. But we expect you’ll find that paying a little more will be well worth the investment. It’s what we’ve been doing since we started in 1983, and we will continue our commitment to our customers well into the future.
We know that you work hard for your money. In this economy, it's impossible not to. Everyone's working more, making less, and trying to stretch their buck. All we ask is that you give us a shot. If you don't leave completely satisfied with our commitment to service, that's unfortunate, and we hate to see you leave unhappy. But we will always fight to make doing business with us worth your time and money. We know we can't please everyone, but that's never stopped us from trying. So stop on in and say hello! We look forward to serving you!
